Social: many people in the South and West supported prohibition because they thought that it would keep the african americans in line to be sober. In the West, prohibition helped with public drunkenness, prostitution, corruption, and crime. In the larger cities, East, foreigners were angry because drinking was part of their cultures. Soldiers were angry that they came back to relax but they couldn't enjoy drinking. Many started illegally drinking.
