COAL STRIKE
This cartoon shows how TR threatened to seize the mines and operate them with federal troops if he had to in order to keep it open and the coal coming to the people. It also represents how he got the coal owners to give the workers a 10% pay increase and a 9 hour workday, but the workers' union wasn't officially recognized as a bargaining agent.
RAILROADS
This shows TR fighting against the railroad barons. He was trying to regulate railroad trusts. TR controlled the corporations when the Elkins Act passed; it fined railroads that gave rebates and the shippers that accepted them. Congress also passed the Hepburn act to stop bribery and the Interstate Commerce Commission was expanded to help control the railroads.
CONSERVATION
This shows Roosevelt's ideals and his perseverance of trying to preserve forests and lands. This represents the Forest Reserve Act of 1891 which allowed TR to set aside land to be protected as national parks, under this statute, 46 million acres of forest were set aside as preserves. Roosevelt knew the values of conservation and helped initiate massive conservation projects. This picture also can represent one of his greatest achievements as president: setting aside 125 million acres for preservation.
